The largest part of Lake Balaton lies within the regions of Veszprém and Somogy, but the region of Zala can also offer a little true Lake Balaton holiday. The Zala River flows into the western corner of the lake.

Croatia forms the southern border of the Somogy region. Somogy is attractive because of its hilly landscape, but mainly because of Lake Balaton, the "Hungarian Sea", which you will find in the northern part of the region.
